pieces of a man on a railroad track

Yeah, right in your face, i don’t recall a crudest view, i mean, seen w/ my eyes. i commute every day and mostly by train so it ain’t new that these things happens yet after at least 2 hours this disgrace took place the scene was as happened, as a battlefield with just one casualty. Many things could be said but i’ll just borrow a few words :

Each man’s death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.

John Donne

come a long way

just got back from a quick work trip to Geneva ( yeah work ‘cause i’d really can’t figure someone going for tourism there) and i figured i’d blog from my hotel room, the’ve this system that should give you internet on the tv screen w/a ir keyboard, but unfortunately it was out of order, honestly last time i check it was still running with Netscape Navigator V.3 , glory of the old age so i’d not rely too much.

The business trip came like a cherry on top of four exact year working for the same company, i saw many friends and colleagues come and go and change job with an high turnover, something quite usual you’d say in the finance or in the so called new media or dot com world, what ‘d i say: not having much time indeed to get bored and be with nice people around is a good reason to choose one workplace, where all in all you spend a lot of your time

stuff dreams are made of

it’s amazing how things can be forgotten : well it’s been a long time since i’ve been playing (or should i say pretending to play?) something on my piano, keyboard indeed, but today after listening a few time to Trouble by Coldplay i decided it was easy enough for me. well i’ve never been good at playing by ear but the net is amazing in this, a quick search and there you go with the piano sheet music well i was no longer able to read the bass key in a piano sheet music…. and there was a time when i played more complicate stuff such as Bridge Over Troubled Water not to mention solfeggio in tenor or baritone key.
Now you might say this is something learnt that you don’t use every day and somewhat not “intrinsic” but i was just wondering, are there more say intimate skills such as dreaming that can fade away ?, i’m not talking ‘bout dreams you do at night, but the capability of imagine, of following a dream, is this something that you can forget ? and what about something apparently even simpler, such as smiling ?
too many questions let’s wear my headphone and get back to Trouble

lessons to be learned

recently i read Italo Calvino’s “Six Memos for The Next Millennium” (Lezioni Americane, if you read it in the original italian version) and i’d recommend it if you’re looking for some directions in the style of writing but we’d say also or creating, or designing things to a wider extent. The topics he explores (it’d have been a series of lectures at Harvard but he died before) are about literature values such as lightness, quickness, exactitude, visibility and multiplicity) fit well with the web world. I just found out an article with some excerpts that talks about this (in italian …)

it’s not so much the pain

as the sound… i mean, the dentist drill noise is something that i find just annoying, why don’t they invent something w/a silencer ? or at least we’d work it out plugging some earphones w/your fav. music. Considering the “mechanic” work involved (if you’d see yourself from above with people putting tools into your mouth) i might suggest something say with a beat like this

Rock ‘n roll keeps you young

Just watched last night the concert of Bruce Springsteen from MSG in NYC last year and he really knows how to rock the stage and all the people there, just damn powerful and energetic, what a rock show should be, and no wonder this guy is 51 yo. In the next weeks two other oldies : Bob Dylan and Neil Young will be in concert in Italy, althought i’ve to admit i don’t know really much of them it’d be worth going and seeing’em

you’ve the responsibility of your relations

that’s something i dreamt some days ago, there was this guy, like a teacher, not indeed but someone talking about his experience and addressing a bunch o’ people he said that, plain and clear, just as meaning, if you don’t do that, nobody will do in your place. So that could be interpreted at various degrees : ranging from more significant relations in life down to what’d be a kind of digital relation as mantaining a website or weblog that’d be supposed to “communicate” something : in that way i’d see as : things don’t always come easily and effortlessly, on the contrary in most cases, so commitment is a key , i’m not preaching , i’m all but the right person on that specific topic, just thinking… (and in the background Bob Dylan is singing Tombstone Blues

anti globalization everywhere

yes, you open an italian newspaper or turn on tv and what you see is some alarming report of what’s going to happen when the next G8 meeting will take place in Genoa, Italy at the end of July, and the government that should talk with those who will be there to protest and to demonstrate against it and tales from the so called people of seattle and the movement but i really wonder : do people know what they’re talking about ? what are the real issues and why this movement make so much noise ? Because sure it makes much more noise crashing shopwindows of McDonald’s or marching against police than a recent public debate between Jeremy Rifking and Umberto Eco on this topic. So it’d be good if people would first be aware and know a little more, surely there are sources on the net that’d be useful or books, i just read trough nologo by Naomi Klein and it was a well documented and and in depth reading. so if you’ve to smash a shopwindow, you’d better know the full story first.
