just got a handful of new live recordings, the amazing array is made of 6 cds with mainly acoustic performances of Radiohead, Coldplay, REM , Fiona Apple and Garbage. and it’s the first live i got of those artists, so the curiosity is great to hear’em, as soon as i’ve more details i’ll update my boots page
that white powder…
on the train on my way back home this evening a carriage has been isolated, reason being on a seat there was some white powder, and in this time with fear of… antrax it was a precautionary measure. A friend of mine back from London says is quite normal there for the tube to be stopped because of bomb alarm, so this little episode is routine, trying to see the positive side: at least we traveled in first class with no additional fee (that carriage separated 1st from 2nd class), gosh what a strange world it has become

wow, i think i earned some 16 GBP from commission deriving from visitors clicking on amazon.co.uk (if you pass from that refererrer link and then buy I get some commission). I guess i’ll invest’em in “The Hacker Ethic” to beef up my collection on hacker readings.
this morning it’s not hot in the office…. it’s HOOOOOOT we’re sweating, with sleeves rolled up, with windows open and maybe there’s even some genius who let the heating start because you know, it’s october 15th
back from the trade show, it’s been a good time, much more people than expected were visiting our booth, as usual a good bunch of colleagues and friends to spend time with and a nice lunch in an agriturismo (i couldn’t believe i could stand all that yummy food) and there’s always this neverending summer so that you go around still with just a t-shirt in mid october, amazing and just a little bit strange.
Blogging in real time from this trade show in Riccione, it’s as usual a hard work and we’ve plenty of client visiting our booth, in the meantime beside advertisting my company website: www.reuters.it (that i created and i’m quite proud of it) i just discovered that my very own personal website can’t be accessed from Tiscali… what the hell ? guess some dns problem…

After last day i was away all day (schedule: wake up at 5.40AM, going to Modena, be back home at 9.30 PM) today i appreciate the confort of my desk
dual language / dual protocol / dual everything
i’m quite flattered by having a post o’ mine linked by a smart and interesting italian weblogmistress (not to mention her remark on my eye 😉 her weblog is in italian, so am i, then why i’m loggin in english? and thus creating some uhm unlinear links (i don’t know what it means but it sounds good) well, this whole site is in english, so for the sake of coherence the weblog follows.Then english is basically like latin in middle age, so it’s universal and if you know italian there’s some chance that you may grasp a little english too, not necessarily true for the other way round. To a deeper level i can feel confortable writing in english, kinda like a shelter using a filter to put view things from a distance but on the other side there’s to say that a foreign language can also be a limitation : i’d be more spontaneous or complex or whatever using my native language… so what i’d do ? post a dual language blog ? mix both languages ? not surely translate.
Translation in most cases make things just funny but not always funny in the way you’d like’em to be. on two languages maybe it’s better creating different stuff, so i did with a recent project that saw the light today, the italian website for www.reuters.it (indeed it’s 11PM and i’m at home doing last minute fix on it via remote access… see i’m a desperate case and i’m not a netslave and it’s not my boss who forced me to do … ah coming back to the talk of dual language , a sentence on the guide to an appraisal form in this case just fits well: “Accomplishes goals while maintaning appropriate work/life balance / Persegue gli obiettivi mantenendo in giusto equilibrio la propria vita e il lavoro”… ain’t it funny ?, ok now with some gazillion bucks salary increase i’d try to compete with Steve Ballmer (well, not really)
this morning i went to the Picasso exhibition in Palazzo Reale, Milan. A truly intriguing and vast array of his works (237) ranging from 1898 to 1972. it was really interesting to see some work of the cubist perior so close, i mean they’ve some visual effect that’s not at all visibile when you look’em in a pic or on a book. Generally the nice thing was to see the whole career trough his life, how his style was always changing and never taking a rest. Very impressive also the last room, where vivid works of the latter period are placed in this big hall of the palazzo that was used for parties, and was heavily damaged by the bombing on world war II, so seeing art ruined by war side by side with masterpieces that are witness of a genius make us think. War obviously destroys people and that’s the biggest loss, but also the work of people, culture and all that comes along succumb and we need something to remind us of it.
